1. China

Yes, China has overtaken all other countries when it comes to military strength in recent years. What came as surprising, in the report from Military Direct, which published the original powerful militaries ranking recently, is that China seems to have overtaken the United States of America in the spectrum of military might. China was given a score of 82 out of 100 when it came to scoring the country’s military capabilities. While determining the military strength of China, the Military Index took military budget, number of active and inactive personnel in the military, and more consideration into account while making the list of strongest militaries in the world, and overall, China has ranked at the top. 

2. USA

Despite having a higher expenditure on overall military power improvements such as higher salary for military personnel and greater expenditure on military pieces of equipment, the USA stills rank lower than China in this list by the Military Index because of their comparably weaker Navy power. The USA scored 74 on the list, also ranked lower than China in categories such as PVTS and equipment, meaning despite the USA’s greater spending on this, it still ranks than the most populated country in the world, China. 

3. Russian Federation

Gone are the days when the only great militaries in the world were the USA and USSR. After the fall of the USSR, its predecessor Russia has still yet done well for itself and now ranks third in the list of strongest militaries in the world in 2021 by Military Index. Though it has major setbacks and areas for improvement in sectors such as budgets, PVTS, and more, it must be considered that the rise of the Russian Federation, with a current score of 69 when it comes to the military capability, along with the ranks of military power after the fall of the USSR is remarkable. 

4. India

India has ranked fourth in the list of strongest militaries in the world at present by Military Index and this is a great achievement for the country. More than half a century after Independence from British rule, India has improved phenomenally when it comes to military might. In retrospection, improving the military capability of India has been a topmost priority for most governments after 1947 due to the tension-fueled relationship that India shares with its neighbors such as Pakistan and China. Every year reports of tension and fight reach us when soldiers on either side do not respect the line of control and cross their boundaries. 

5. France

France, a country rich for its values and struggle by the common people, does not take oppression and/or threat from other countries lightly. That is why a country with more than 67 million holds the fifth rank when it comes to military power. France has scored 58 in the list of strongest militaries in the world at present, a great feat for a country with only 643,801 km² in area. France, of course, has a lot of areas to improve upon. Their military spending has a score of only 4 out of 10, considering that it spends below 70 billion in military expenditure. 

6. Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia, the middle-east country known for its wealth ranks sixth on the list of most powerful militaries in the world currently by the Military Index. Saudi Arabia, a country with over 34 million population, spends above 60 billion on the military budget and it has a score of 6 out of 10 for military expenditure. Overall, Saudi Arabia has a score of 56 when it comes to judging its military’s might on specific parameters decided by the Military Index. 

7. South Korea

South Korea has been allotted the seventh rank in the list of powerful militaries in the world in2021 by the Military Index. In the aftermath of the Korean War in the 1950s, South Korea is under constant military threat from North Korea, their neighbor. Military Index has allowed them a score of 52 out of 100 to grade their military power. There are numerous factors that make South Korea’s military stronger such as its military-grade advancement and certain duties such as all the able-bodied males in the country have to serve in the military for a minimum of one year and a half. Considering all these factors, South Korea’s rank in the military power list is well deserved.

8. Japan

Some of you might be surprised to see Japan retain the eighth rank when it comes to most powerful militaries in the world in 2021, having learned that Japan isn’t allowed to have a military after the World War II. In reality,Japan has a mighty Self-Defense Forces. Although, according to their constitution, maintenance of military is banned, there’s a loop when it comes to selfdefence forces. 9. The United Kingdom

The population of the UK is around 80 million or more, and its army strength is able enough to protect its citizens like it has continued to do so for centuries. 

10. Germany

After world war two, Germany rose from the damage and went on to have a marvelous success in terms of economy and military. At present, Germany was given the tenth rank on the list of strongest militaries in the world by Military Index along with a score of 39 out of 100. In consideration of its landmass, population, and existential threat from other neighboring countries, which it has less, Germany seems to be doing pretty well in retrospect to its army power and strength.
