7 Popular Poets & Writers Who Fought for the Independence of Indian Struggle

Around 7 decades ago, on the remembrance date 15th August 1947. Indians became free from the rule of Britishers after decades, thousands of revolts, protests, movements and other activities. We only got independence because of their bravery and the values of some legendary people. The fact about India and its freedom struggle is that we did not get freedom only because of Gandhi.

Today we are going to talk about some of the most important and brave writers and poets whose word power helped to make our country free from the British government. Their write-ups work as a bullet on the British Government and create a sense of revolt against the British army. Some songs and slogans made the activist and freedom fighter more energetic and courageous. Meanwhile, some of the Songs and pieces are still being played at events and on patriotic days. 

Here are the Writers, poets and journalists who fought against the Britishers for the independence of the country.

Sarojini Naidu 

Sarojini Naidu is popularly known as The Nightingale of India. She was a wonderful poet as well as an amazing politician and activist. She has an important role in the freedom struggle of India. She was a member of the Indian National Congress, also she played a major role in the Civil Disobedience movement. ‘The Golden Threshold’, ‘The Bird of Time’, ‘The Feather of the Dawn’ are some of her amazing and popular poems.

Shyamlal Gupta

Shyamlal Gupta is one of the best writers in India. He is well known for his ‘Jhanda Uncha Rahe Hamara”, and this song has been adopted as our national flag song. He was popularly known as Parshad, which was his pen name. This song is still sung by our youth on every patriotic day or flag ceremony. In 1969, the great poet and lyricist was awarded Padma Shri. In 1997, he was honoured by the Indian Government as his postage stamp was issued.

Sri Aurobindo

Sri Aurobindo was a great poet and civil worker. He worked in Baroda as a Civil Worker, which was a princely state at the time of the British Raj. He joined the nationalist party during India’s Freedom Struggle. Later, he had turned into a spiritual reformer and he helped others in spiritual evolution. ‘Savitri: A Legend and a Symbol’ is his well-known poem. ‘The Life Divine’ is based upon Yoga. Aurobindo was also very famous for establishing Aurobindo Ashram.

Makhanlal Chaturvedi

Makhan Lal Chaturvedi was an amazing Hindi Poet since Neo-romanticism time. He was also known as Panditji. He was an incredible writer, essayist, poet and journalist. He was an active freedom fighter. He was very famous for his poem “Pushp ki Abhilasha” which simply means (The dream of a Flower) that denotes the emotions and feelings of the Country’s Freedom Fighter before the time of independence. 

Hasrat Mohani

Hasrat Mohani was an amazing and brave writer and social activist. He was very well known for his slogan “Inquilab Zindabad” during the Freedom Struggle of India. Hasrat Mohani was very famous for his love Ghazals. Hasrat Mohani was one of the main founders of the Indian Communist Party. He was brave and well known for his write-ups. At the time of the pre- Independence struggle, he was very famous for his bold slogans.

Chittaranjan Das

Chittaranjan Das was a very famous National activist and poet. Das was one of the most important figures in the Country’s Freedom Struggle. He was also known as Desh Bandhu. Desh Bandhu referred to the “Friend of the nation”. He was a great person and wrote a lot of poems and articles to be aware of the country’s freedom. He was also very related to the literature society.

Rabindranath Tagore

The legendary Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore was an amazing writer and poet. He was a humanist and one of the major exponents of the Renaissance of Bengal. He was a great fighter unlike other freedom fighters his words had a lot of power and bravery. Tagore’s poems like “Where The Mind Is Without Fear” and his collection of poetries “Gitanjali”  are his great pieces of art and he is well-known for these. The National Anthem of India ‘Jana Gana Mana’ is also written by him. And now ‘Amar Shonar Bangla’ is adopted as Bangladesh’s National Anthem.
